No longer will Seabrook Island residents and guests need to head to East Bay for 4-star food they can enjoy the delights of new Executive Chef Sara Carter and new Pastry Chef Ann McCall without ever leaving the island. Chef Carter, a highly respected chef formerly with Stephen Duvall Catering & Events, takes the helm of the Seabrook kitchen fresh from a highly successful tenure with that company, where she was responsible for handling some of Charlestons most prominent weddings and events. Thinking Outside the Box

Author : Marc Rifkin
Much of my time as a Professional Organizer is spent helping people to put things into containers and boxes. But, success in this business requires as much thinking "outside the box" as it does about putting things into containers. I was reminded of this recently, while consulting with clients who own a large, well-appointed suburban home. Two of the issues that the clients presented were the lack of closet space on the main floor, and the constant clutter on a small, built-in desk. Limited closet space resulted in coats' being deposited in the front entry. Shoes were removed inside the garage and dropped on the floor, by the other door into the house. The homeowners were tired of tripping on shoes. And the last thing they wanted (guests) to see was a wall of coats hanging in the foyer. So, the challenge was clear: This active family needed more closet space. The second problem was the built-in desk. Located adjacent to the kitchen, the desk was an obvious clutter trap. It was probably designed as a bill paying area, or maybe a place for children to do homework. But, the family had a home office, and the children were teens. Over time, this space had become a phone desk, magazine dump, mail dump, clutter repository, etc. So, I asked the client some questions:"Do you use this desk?""A little. For this and that.""Do you need the desk?""No.""Would you miss the desk if it went away?""No.""Are you thinking what I'm thinking?""I'm thinking about ripping out the desk, adding some doors, and turning the space into a closet. Is that what you're thinking?""Exactly."What's the point? The architect designed a built-in desk, the builder built a built-in desk, and the homeowner bought a built-in desk. But, the space wasn't working as a desk. So, we took the same space, and gave it a different name: closet. Same space-different use. Better use of space. More productive use of space. More effective use of space. The ability to make these connections, and visualize new uses is part of thinking out of the box. Sometimes we have to stand back, remove the preconceptions, and let our imagination work. Containers and boxes are important. And sometimes we need to put the containers aside, and think out of the box. It's an important part of learning to become organized.© 2005 OASIS professional organizers™Marc Rifkin is a Professional Organizer, and owner of OASIS professional organizers, which provides home and office organizing solutions in Greater Seattle.©2005 OASIS professional organizers

Customer Preferences in Online Advertising-Part 2 of 3

Author : Karon Thackston

In part one of this series, we discussed the fact that
studies show information leads over entertainment. We
discovered that Web site visitors are primarily looking
for information, and therefore, ads should be more
information-oriented.

The second of the three discoveries in the Jupiter
Communications (www.jup.com) survey that I will
comment on is the discovery that some online advertising
is seen as an extreme annoyance. Let's be sure your
ads aren't included in that group.

What They Hate
No one likes to be bombarded with advertising. We all
see it everywhere we go. It's on television, the radio,
billboards, and even grocery story carts for goodness
sake. However, online advertising is viewed as the
most aggressive.

Jupiter found that 49% of those surveyed said online
advertising was the most intrusive of all. Many were
willing to tolerate ads in broadcast or print media,
probably due to the fact that they could leave the room,
change the station or turn the page. However, online
ads hold an extremely negative reputation.

From my experience, this is most likely due to the fact
that online ads often have a "used car dealer" air to them.
I have seen many that look like they're all produced from
the same template.

These ads promise the sun, the moon and the stars.
They scream about why you simply must buy the product
or service. Then, to make it worse, the site captures your
email address and you receive hundreds of email
advertisements via an autoresponder that apparently has
no end.

The Worst Possible Ads
The worst offender is pop-up ads. These are the
advertisements that pop onto the screen as you click
through a Web site. They advertise specials or offer
subscriptions to Ezines, etc. Once thought to be a
tremendous sales tool, these ads have become
increasingly offensive.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of those in the Jupiter survey
viewed pop-up ads negatively. Almost 25% found them
so annoying they would completely avoid sites that used
them. That's a powerful statistic. Can you afford to have
25% of your Web site traffic never return simply because
you employ pop-up ads?

What We Can Do To Make It Better
So, now that we know what our site visitors hate, how
can we adjust our advertising in order to please them
(and make them buy)?

Here are some recommendations to consider when
creating your next piece of advertising:

1.Don't do "anything and everything" to get the
buyer's attention. Everyone that comes to your site
isn't going to buy. The harder you try to get their
attention and force them to read your ad, the harder
they will try to escape.

2.Remember from Part 1 in this series, site
visitors are looking for information primarily. Include
your ad along with other, useful information. Perhaps
you might try offering a free report or article that
provides information the visitor can use. At the bottom,
insert an advertisement for a product or service you
offer that can help them further.

3.Don't use pop-up ads.

4.Keep your target audience in mind. Business
people aren't going to have the time or inclination to
participate in game-type ads. On the other hand,
teenagers love them. If your target group is younger
people, games might be the thing for you. Design
your ad to meet the preferences of your target
customer.

Using these suggestions will help your ads be more
readily received - instead of avoided at all costs!

In Part 3, the final article in this series, we'll look at the
behavioral aspect of online advertising and discover
what characteristics and traits should be kept in mind.

About the Author
Karon is Owner and President of KT & Associates who offers
targeted copywriting, copy editing & ghostwriting services.
Subscribe to KT & Associates' Ezine "Business Essentials" at
BusinessEssentials-subscribe@topica.com or visit her site at
http://www.ktamarketing.com
Naming and Branding Your Business

Author : Dan Cavalli
Have you ever seen what you thought could have been a great business but for some reason it doesn't catch on? What you will learn here is how to avoid:- Frustration
- Mistakes
- HeartacheHere you will have the right thought process when giving your business a name that will be remembered. You've heard it a million times. Perception is everything. Regardless of whether it's the truth, perception is what rules the world. So when considering your business name, make sure that the perception of that name is what you intend it to be.The branding of your name and what you want it to stand for is just as important. Make sure that your name is able to be branded not just registered. By that, I mean, that you can operate a business under a registered name but you may not be able to promote or brand that name so be careful.TIP: Get the name right first and the rest will follow. You may have to brainstorm with others and take some time if your business is not easy to explain. Some initial but important tasks are essential in the beginning. As soon as you have some suitable names, check if you are allowed to own them. Is the name available as a registered business name? Are you able to register and buy the domain name? If so, ask yourself these questions:Can I combine what I do with a catchy new word or phrase?
Are there any symbols I can put in the name that come to mind?
Can I use the first letter of the name as a pocket logo to identify my business?TIP: Choose a name that has a meaning or suggestion of what you do.Consider all potential names and narrow them down to a short list of five to 10 names. Use the following checklist to evaluate them one at a time. You must be able to answer yes to all questions for any name to be considered further.1. Is it no more than three words combined?
2. Is each word less than 10 letters?
3. Does it identify what you do?
4. Does the first letter lend itself to a logo?
5. Does it conjure only positive thoughts when it is read?
6. Is it easy to say?
7. Does it sound pleasing to the ear?
8. Does it have an emotional feel?If you have answered yes for any name, the names may be considered further. Once you have a couple of names that you feel are worthy, give them to everyone you know associated with your business. If you haven't started yet give it to others that you don't know and ask their opinion. Be sure to ask them to complete the answers to the 8 questions above.Last but not least, you need a slogan.TIP: Make sure the slogan is catchy and will be remembered. Some great examples of names and slogans are:"Which Bank"
Commonwealth Bank
(Savings bank of Australia)"We'll save you"
Aussie Home loans.
(Home lending Intuition)"You Know Who"
Telcoblue
(Telecommunications provider)In conclusion I wish you luck. This information will be invaluable to you when you have to market and sell your products into the worldwide scene. There are still a lot of issues here and I suggest that you always seek advice of a lawyer before you do anything that will impact in any way on you or your business.Dan Cavalli makes it easy for business and people to be the best they can be now! Why Learn Spanish?

Author : Gregory Newell

Why learn Spanish of all languages? Why not Italian, French, or even Russian, because it seems to be the most practical language to have these days living in the US. With an ever-expanding Latin American population, being able to speak a language that is becoming so widely used would be an invaluable asset. Schools are even becoming bi-lingual and Spanish is stressed. There are even parts of the country; Miami springs to mind, where there are most likely more people for whom Spanish is their first language than there are people who are native English speakers. Even outside of the states, Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world; the ranking is apparently in dispute as I found numerous statistics. Most Latin American countries, those in Central and South America speak Spanish with an ever increasing amount of people in the United States. That is almost an entire hemisphere full of a language. And then there is Spain as well, while that Spanish may be slightly different than the Spanish in Latin America, Spanish it still is.There are an ever-increasing amount of reasons why people should learn Spanish. Not only because of the amount of people who speak it but in a more selfish way it is becoming increasingly valuable to speak a second language professionally. The problem is that people in the United States tend to be more than a little arrogant in their thought that English is the most important language and they simply don't need to speak anything else.Being bilingual gives one opportunities to live and work outside of the country that would be unavailable otherwise. It gives one options. And given the large amount of counties in which Spanish is spoken it gives one a lot of options. Gregory Newell is a web author who's written about hot to learn to speak Spanish. If you want to know why learn Spanish then you might be interested in reading more.

Preparing Your Homeschool Classroom

Author : L. D. Mairet

Once you've made the decision to homeschool your child/ren, you will need to prepare a homeschool classroom. This is important and critical for both you and your child. This will help separate work time and play time. This also gives you space to keep all of your resources organized and to stay focused. First, find your "extra space". The bigger the better! Use an extra bedroom, a den, or a finished basement area. If your lucky enough, and have the land, you can build an outside building for your classroom. Whichever you choose, make it your designated "homeschool classroom". Clear the room out completely, its always easier to start with a blank slate.Next, get your child involved! Why not make it a project with your child? After all, it's their space too. Get a plan drawn out on paper of different areas you might like for your room. A comfortable reading area is always a plus! A nice, large, child size table with child size chairs. Don't forget an area for yourself. A closet is great for resources and supplies. Let's not forget a computer with internet access, computers are excellent resources for homeschooled children. If you have the room, a computer for yourself is always nice. This allows you work time while your child is busy or you can get resources for yourself as needed. You will need plenty of shelving space for resources and materials for both you and your child. A cheap, easy way to do this is at your local building store. Just buy the shelves that are put up on brackets and attached directly to the walls. You can use these shelves for all your storage needs. You can even divide the shelving into sections such as sciene, math, social studies, reading, or whatever you choose. Finally, Decorate Decorate Decorate! There is a reason for bulletin boards and decorations in classroooms. Stimulation! You can decorate as part of your lesson plans and your child should definately be involved. Make a display section for your childs work and achievements to show them how proud you are of all their effort.Do your best to designate an entire room to your homeschooling needs. This will allow your child and you to distinguish between education time and family time in your household. This also allows for less distractions that your house may bring to both you and your child. You can't perform effectively if your thinking about the dishes you need to be doing or if the phone is ringing of the hook. Your child may not be thinking educationally if they see all those toys or other distractions your house may bring. The most important thing to remember is that if you feel good and professional about your homeschool area, then it will reflect in your teachings! About The AuthorL. D. Mairet is a mother of four, former teacher with a triple major in education, and a previous educational preschool owner. Ryder Cup encourages more Visitors to Ireland to Explore beyond Dublin

Author : Michael Hanna

Over the last decade Dublin has carved out a reputation and position as one of Europe's leading city break destination. Ireland has made great efforts to promote itself, and its' capital, as a tourist destination and has made great strides in doing so. But still the majority of visitors to the country fly in and out of Dublin without ever leaving the city boundaries. Whilst Dublin has much to offer in terms of culture and nightlife it seems a shame that much of this rich country remains unexplored by tourists. Ireland is a small country but retains diverse offerings for the tourism market. With easy access from the UK and mainland Europe thanks to the expansion of airports at Dublin, Cork and Shannon in recent years, Ireland has placed itself firmly on the tourist map. Attracting short break visitors from the UK has proved relatively easy a short hop on a plane or ferry has helped Dublin to carve it's reputation as a city break highlight. But Dublin commands an abnormally high number of tourists and with Ireland looking to attract longer term visitors, perhaps it is time to look beyond the capital to explore Ireland's tourism credentials. Ireland's effort to promote the rest of the country was helped by the EU in 2005 when Cork was announced as European City of Culture. Irelands' second city has become much more accessible in recent years with a busy international airport taking users direct to the South West of Ireland. Warmed directly by the Gulf Stream, Cork might surprise visitors who are welcomed by palm trees and bamboo adding a flavour that is perhaps more Cannes than craic. Its' history as a seaport is evident in Cork life woth bustling markets and restaurant scene. The city skyline is dominated by St Finn Barre's Cathedral, a spectacular triple spiralled French Gothic structure. Cork is a sizeable, yet compact city that offers a refreshing and altogether different alternative to Dublin. Kerry is a hill walkers' paradise. With rugged coastline, mountain ranges and national parks, Kerry is perhaps the most suited area to outdoor activities. Golf is popular throughout the country and the fabulous K Club in County Kildare is host to the 2006 Ryder Cup. The North West of Ireland from Sligo up to Donegal offers outdoor activities such as Atlantic surfing, mountaineering and, of course, more golf. Ireland is compact and, although internal flights are infrequent, travelling by road can offer a rewarding experience. Most cities and towns have readily available car hire in Ireland. The coastal routes in particular are a spectacular driving experience and you'll be certain that you're out of Dublin. Author : Michael Smith

So why are people finding network marketing so hard? Is it impossible to reach the fifty thousand a month mark? Of course not, however many people just don't know how to really get started. If you do a little planning you will have a much more pleasant network marketing experience. First you have to know that this is a business so treat it like one. If you treat it like a hobby it will reward you like a hobby, little pay.Next, you want to make sure the product you are going to be selling is truly of value. Would you feel comfortable sharing it with your loved ones? This isn't saying you are going to try and sell it to them, but you should feel proud representing the products. Are the products completely stand alone and can you make a profit without just recruiting. The biggest mistake most newbie networkers make is trying to just recruit. You must make product sales in order for your business to truly thrive. After that you should look at your potential sponsor. Do they really know what they are talking about? Do they have a vested interest in your future or are they just trying to sell you something? It's important to find out a little about your sponsor. The people who really make significant income in network marketing have realized that it is a people business. People don't join companies or comp plans, they join YOU. Make sure your sponsor is supporting that message and isn't calling it a "numbers game."The main thing you want out of a sponsor is they should be able to teach you how to duplicate what they have done. Finally, you will want to do your due diligence on your potential company. Make sure the company is completely debt free and is operating inside the U.S. You don't want to work with a company that is hiding in the Bahamas or off in Panama somewhere. Choosing Paint Colours for a Neutral Colour Scheme

Author : Lucie Storrs
Pale but interesting is probably the most popular look when it comes to painting your house, and we often advise people on neutral colour schemes in our shop on the edge of the Peak District. Below are a few key points which our customers often find useful.1. When choosing an off-white, it's really helpful to look at the colour next to a pure white (use the whitest thing you can find, such as a sheet of paper from the printer or the back of an envelope, for example). This helps you to see any tendencies within a colour, which way a colour is going. What do I mean by that? For example, what in isolation seemed like a fairly neutral pale colour could suddenly reveal a strong hint of green, yellow or pink. As this might not be the effect you want, it's important to establish this before wasting time and money on paint you don't really like.2. On a similar note, it's particularly important with off-whites to buy a tester pot first and try it out at home. Put on two coats in small patches on a few different walls to establish the effect of different light (allow the paint to dry between coats - use a hairdryer if you're in a hurry!). And if you're trying out several tester pots at once, don't forget to mark which colour is which... In an ideal situation, it's a good idea to live with the colour patches for a few days so you can see how they look in the daylight and at night, and make sure you are completely happy with your choice.3. Don't forget that colours change depending on the colour they are next to. You can use this to your advantage. For example, you may feel that the colour you have chosen is perhaps a little pale once you have painted the whole room in it. Adding touches of an even lighter colour to your scheme (painting the skirting boards or doors in white, or even just adding a white throw or cushions) will immediately highlight the fact that the walls are actually a colour - pale but interesting nonetheless!4. Neutrals are a great choice for a hallway, as you won't have to worry about the colours of the rooms leading off the hall. They should all go with the neutral colour scheme you have chosen. Don't worry about this being boring - it needn't be! Try up to three different neutral shades. To give a concrete example, if you were using Farrow & Ball paints you could use White Tie no. 2002 on the ceiling, skirting boards and doors, Matchstick no. 2013 above the dado rail and Savage Ground no. 213 below. What if you haven't got a dado rail? Well, just draw a pencil line at dado rail height and paint one colour above the line and the other colour below. It works really well and is a good way of adding interest. Another popular method of achieving this, of course, is to paint one wall in a different colour to the others.By Lucie Storrs, owner of Period Features (http://www.periodfeatures.net/), a successful shop and mail order company selling domestic paraphernalia for period homes and gardens. A Quick Rundown on Rustic Bedding

Author : Jared Winston

These days, anyone looking to purchase home furnishings is faced with a seemingly endless range of choices. There is enough bedding, bathroom accessories and furniture products available for you to indulge in all your interior decoration desires, but with the wide assortment available it's sometimes difficult to know where to start! A popular method nowadays is to decorate a room according to a theme; haphazard d?cor displays just doesn't cut it anymore. For example, you can choose to go the modern route with steel, glass and leather or an Eastern-inspired theme complete with a divan and mirrored bedspreads. However, one the most popular choices among home decorators remains the tried and true theme of a rustic lodge or cabin.Rustic-inspired furnishings usually feature warm colors and tend towards practicality and comfort. You can co-ordinate your whole bedroom with appropriate rustic bedding accessories, matching drapes, carpets, lighting fixtures and bathroom accessories. One of the more distinctive features of a rustic bedding set is its colors and motifs. They usually come in warm colors like brick red, deep greens, oranges, blues and dark grays ? all colors inspired from nature. The motifs are distinct in that they sport the themes of wildlife and the wild outdoors. They evoke the comfortable and relaxed atmosphere of a lodge or cabin. Most rustic bedding sets are available in a wide variety of sizes and sheet combinations. A standard sheet set usually includes a top sheet along with a fitted bottom sheet and two pillowcases. It should be noted that in many cases only a single pillowcase is provided with the twin set of sheets. Rustic bedding sets come in all the standardized sizes ? Twin, Full, Queen, King and CAL king. This makes it easier for you to choose a set according to your needs and you don't have to worry about the bedding set being either too small or too large for your bed.You generally have the choice of two types of fabric: flannel and percale. While flannel is made from 100% cotton fibers, percale is 30% cotton and 70% polyester. The pricing also differs for the two fabrics ? on the whole the percale bedding sets are somewhat cheaper than flannel ones. Apart from the usual themes like woods, moose, bear, fishing etc., some companies also offer a 'heritage' bedding collection. These are classic designs for the more traditionally inclined.Apart from the regular bedding sets you can also buy matching comforters (available in all the standard sizes), pillow shams and bed skirts. Some manufacturers also provide throw pillows and shower curtains to match your rustic bedding set. To complete the look of your room, you can even go so far as to use compatible window treatments. The drapes usually match the pattern of the comforter, and the headers, rod pocket and tiebacks complete the set. Blanket ensembles made from the finest fabrics are also an option if you're looking to splurge. Heck, if you are so inclined, you could even invest in an heirloom quality handmade quilt with a rustic theme.Copyright ? Jared Winston, 2006. All Rights Reserved.
