Should You Move or Stand Still?

Author : David Allan King
"When in the dark is it better to move or stand still? If still, you won't bump into anything - but you won't find the light either"
- Norm Howe.We always have a choice when we are in a place of darkness. When we are going through a time of darkness we have the options that are the same as if we were in a dark room which is unknown to us. We can stand still and hope that by some means apart from us the light will come on. That might work if it is a power cut. Or we may think that someone will open the door and switch on the light.I want to suggest that the metaphor of standing still is not a good option because we tend to wallow in self-pity when standing still. It speaks of inactivity. Being static can easily turn to being stagnant. You will smell awful! Unless you use your mind and start to move you will find whatever courage you had begins to shrink. Courage is fed by activity. It is like a muscle that needs use to develop. But what if we move toward the light, or at least start to move to where we think the light might be? We may well spend some time in the darkness and feel discouraged in our search for the switch. We may look too high or too low. There may be times when we despair of ever finding such a switch. We may have moments of real doubt that the room has a switch at all. It will be the level of your courage, your endurance and your faith that will take you through to the place of discovery of that switch.
