Hydrogen Fuel Leakage Problems, They Are Real

We are fortunate enough to live in a country where we can spend on Research and Development. It is wonderful we have the 3 billion dollars to spend on R and D for Hydrogen Fuel Cells. It is great that we have found some future problems early on so we can work on fixing them. The problem with hydrogen leaking is that it will end up floating to the upper atmosphere quicker due to it's light weight and therefore offset the ozone layer. Some scientists estimated by up to 18% with in a time period equal to widespread useage in cars, transportation, powere plants ships, etc. The problem is as the Hydrogen goes up into the stratosphere it would condense and oxidize that means you would have water.Thus the lower atmosphere would infact cool. Currently some scientists estimate the change in ozone to be 8% which they have said is why we have holes at the poles. We had thought that they were closing up and this was perhaps a trend or cycle. All this means a disturbance in the ozone chemistry which is not good. We know what the effects of such are as we have already seen in Tierra Del fuego, with Blind sheep and cancer rate increases to alraming numbers. But we also know from aviation studies of skin cancer in pilots. You may search this topic on this baord for a cross industry study we did.Leakage from Fuel Cell tanks or unused fuel is a significant problem which should be addressed after all we can control Feon to a large degree, but with so much Hydrogen running everything it could be a problem, Hydrogen is found everywhere and in many compounds where it is trapped and as those molecules or compounds decay Hydrogen is released naturally anyway. We may have a chance to control it and certainly we are looking into this. Another issue is of course already discussed, the heat conversion process and high temperatures which could cause intense fog banks as you drive in early mornings or urban heat from millions of cars in Metropolitan areas..We are hoping that the researchers can infact can over come these obsticles and that we can prove that a widespread Hydrogen Economy can in fact be possible. They are aware of the problem at the Department of Energy and many top energy scientists and automobile companies are working on these and other serious issues right now.What does all this mean? It means that jumping to conclusion on any one idea is not smart, because if we went to Electric Cars with batteries. Then we would have all kinds of waste disposal problems far worse than the energy saved. Also making electricity from fossil fuels at power plants would mean you would simply have re-displaced the pollution to somewhere else, GM announced a complete dumping of it's project recently after the California Air Resources Board figured out that the 10% electric quota of cars was a pipe dream. Although they should be commended on their forward thinking and attempt as many Futurists concur.In 1890 Electric cars were created. And it took until 1998 to figure out what to do with them, now Tesla would have prefered the battery operated automobile as he stated at the World's Faire at the turn of the century. Of course the reality of what to do with all the dead and old corroded batteries is a serious issue, right now they do not even know what to do with all the ion-litium bateries being disposed of that do not fit the newer cellular phones because they are too big. Nickle Metal Hydride also issues. Disposal, remember we trash 10 million cars per year in this country at the current rate. Selling 17 million and a net gain of 7 million cars which will all be disposed of in the future too. Used cars are piling up across America and not just the old rusty one's which number 5 per household in the Southern States.So you ask what is the answer to all of this? Well right now the answer is in the 3 billion dollars of research granted by Congress and brought to the table by the President in the State of the Union Speech. Five Steps to a Cleaner Engine

There are some good reasons why you should clean the engine compartment of your vehicle periodically. For one thing, it makes it easier to see fluid leaks and worn belts, prevents rust, and makes a great impression if you are selling your car.It also makes working on your car's engine less of a chore because you don't get as messy. You'll notice when take your car to a garage that the mechanics tend to be more meticulous and precise when working on a clean engine.A few precautions- Always wear good eye protection when using chemical cleaning agents like engine degreasers. You absolutely must disconnect your vehicle's negative battery cable before beginning any cleaning work on the engine and/or electrical system. Please also refer to your vehicle's service manual for any cleaning instructions or precautions that may specifically apply to your particular engine.Step One- Before you begin the cleaning, start the engine, let it warm up for a few minutes then shut it off, in order to soften up collected grease and grit in your engine compartment. The correct cleaning temperature for the engine to be is warm but not hot- you should be able to hold your hand to the engine without burning it.Before cleaning the engine with water, it's imperative to cover electrical and mechanical components beneath the hood to protect them from water damage. The air intake/air filter, the distributor, the coil and the oil dipstick/breather should be covered using plastic baggies sealed with rubber bands It's a good idea to also check the tightness of the oil filler cap, power steering filler cap, windshield washer fluid cap, oil dip stick, battery filler caps and secure baggies over them.Step Two- Spray all over the engine and engine compartment with non-petroleum based degreaser, starting from the bottom and working up. Citrus degreasing products will not harm the paint or finish on aluminum components and are biodegradable. After 3-5 minutes use a soft cotton towel or brush to carefully scrub the heavy dirt. Re-spray and re-scrub any areas that need additional cleaning. Once the whole engine and engine compartment has been cleaned, rinse thoroughly with water. Try to avoid getting the degreaser on any exterior painted areas as it will strip the wax from your finish. If this happens, it's okay, but you'll have to give those areas a good wax job when you're through.Step three- Once clean, right away take off all the plastic baggies. Dry any collected water, especially on aluminum parts, with a soft cotton towel. Using paper towels, dry the battery. Start the engine and let it warm up, in order to dry the remainder of the engine and evaporate any moisture in sensitive components.
Once everything is dry and cooled off is a good chance to put a coating of rubber protectant on your rubber hoses, plastic shields and rubber gaskets.Step Four- If the battery terminals are dirty, disconnect the cables and clean both the cable terminals and battery posts with a wire brush. Reconnect the terminals and retighten. Get some battery terminal spray and spray on the connected terminals to protect them from corrosion.Step Five- A thin coating of non-silicone lubricant should be applied to any hinges, throttle cables, cruise control cables and similar moving parts. Now check and top off fluid levels.Take your car out for a spin and make sure the engine runs satisfactorily. Advanced technology was applied where practical to achieve a light and rigid unibody design using materials that offered higher strength and lighter weight.The MX5 iconic roadster has indeed evolved as evident on its bold new look. The classic "Coke bottle" shape of the contours was removed. The nose and tail are smoothly tapered but now the surfaces wrap smoothly between the wheels without narrowing. The fender arches of the new Mazda MX-5 are notably more pronounced for a substantially wider wheel track dimensions and a more athletic stance. Seventeen-inch wheels help define the corners of the car while there are modest increases in wheelbase (+65 mm), length (+20 mm), width (+40 mm), and height (+20 mm),With Mazda's new generation sport car architecture the car boasts 22 per cent more flexural stiffness and a 47 per cent increase in torsion rigidity compared with the former Mazda MX-5's. Moving the engine rearward by 135 mm was a major step towards balancing front-to-rear weight distribution and reducing the yaw moment of inertia.
