No matter the individual or the reason at hand, all effective leadership styles have one thing in common- they all contain the "Four C's"- Character, Communication skills, Consistency, and the Creativity needed for successful problem solving. Of course, within each of these four traits, variances of extreme proportions are noted by those most inclined to utilize them.For example, President Harry Truman was quoted as saying, "A leader is a person who has the ability to get others to do what they don't want to do and like it." This type of leadership style, or "Team Leader", is one in which the leader rallies those following behind in a positive manner and therefore yielding positive results. Such a leader is considered to be "High Task and High Relationship", making sure that all workers/followers are focused, aiming together toward one common goal, and working just as hard (if not harder) as the others in the team.On the flip side, Napoleon and other "great" leaders of history were not concerned that their people liked what they were doing. In fact, these types of leaders had absolutely no concern for their recruits/followers, as they were considered to be "High Task/Low Relationship", or have adopted an "Authoritarian Leadership" style. Although effective, it's highly unlikely that Napoleon's troops were thrilled with their experiences.Within the differing leadership styles (both effective and not), one must be familiar with the negative attributes which can easily effect the performance and outcome of the task at hand. For instance, a "Country Club Leader" is one that is "Low Task and High Relationship", thus using reward power as the driving force to reach the preset goals. Such actions are commonly the result of fear of losing or damaging the relationships of their team, therefore not using the powers that are required by a leader and replacing them with money and/or gifts.The ability to get onto the correct path for creating your own effective leadership style stems from within the individual, for realizing that it is the followers who recognize if a leader is successful is the first step. Share the glory with your team, but keep the pains to yourself. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty, for a boss tells others what to do while a leader shows them what can be done. Share your vision with your team in words that can be understood by all. Ignorance and Fantasy

Are beliefs not often the children of ignorance and fantasy? Consider the heavenly view of the world that young souls entertain at the height of their innocence, when their youth has been surrounded by love and filled with happiness. Hear their laughter. Dreams expand in a vacuity of knowledge like a laughing gas and induce the blindest, the purest joy. Ignorance is bliss, as they say, because it spares us the mental restraints associated with knowledge (which reveals the limits of reality and hence the impossibility of our fantasies). It is the ultimate playground where the mind can build castles in the air, create a wonderland, and live delightedly in this kingdom of reverie. It paves the way for the reign of error, as it leaves us to believe whatever we like. Everything that is desirable is realizable, if not real, until we find evidence to the contrary. Santa Claus eventually dies of our old age – when we are no longer so young, so green, that we are easily fooled by a tall story.In truth, however wise we may be, we are still at risk. We spontaneously indulge in fantasies about the world here below, which is never totally known, or the beyond, which is unknowable. We are always tempted to believe that our health, our relationships, our career, or any other part of our life, will be wonderful, or that our death will not be an end, but a passage from here to a paradisal hereafter. This temptation is irresistible for many when they discover a charismatic fortuneteller or spiritual leader who professes this belief, which remains unproven nonetheless. Our believing is then the result of ignorance and fantasy, plus faith.An example of self-deceit that concerns young idealists and betrays their warm-blooded aspiration for perfect love is the illusive passion they often experience toward attractive members of the opposite sex whom they little know. By perfect love I mean a complete and durable harmony at every level – physical, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual – between two lovers. It involves friendship to a high degree, as the words "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" suggest. While it includes lust, it transcends and transfigures it.Pop songs are common vehicles for this ideal, which entices many young souls. I am thinking of young men in particular, who are usually quick to fantasize about pretty young women and fall madly in love with them, or rather with a fantastical image of them. This quickness is typical of their ardent and imprudent youth. It needs nothing more than a few smiles and nods, a few gracious words of agreement, to make these young men imagine they have found a soul mate, as they pour out their inner self – their sense of what is good, true, right, or sacred. A few auspicious signs and, voilà, they take the pretty young women for dream girls and are besotted with them! A few misleading signs, in fact. Every charm hides a cause for alarm.If, in the struggle for survival and happiness, society is a cure for individual limitations (an imperfect cure to be sure, with side effects), it is also a pill hard to swallow. Civility is a smooth sugar coating that eases the swallowing. Give thanks to those who phrase their discontentment with delicacy and embellish it with a compliment and an encouragement. No nagging, no gagging. Sometimes civility excludes honesty and amounts to well-meaning or self-serving hypocrisy. It turns into servility through a mix of kindness and weakness, or through pure selfishness. One way or another, some people are fooled, kept in the dark, while they should live wisely, in the light of knowledge. They are denied truth: the opportunity to conceive of their true situation and achieve their true purpose.
Young men, among the fantasizers I referred to earlier, are often lured by the social graces of pretty young women. The poor fish take the hook and eventually discover they have made a mistake, like many others in the same boat. The dream girls were ordinary maidens or vixens who first behaved and talked infinitely sweet, and later proved lovable in a limited way or revealed their sour temper.A long intimacy is a good test of a couple's true nature. It always strips relationships of the silky appearance they sometimes have initially, when seduction overrides every other consideration. This appearance is superficial and deceptive like the outer layers of an onion. Once it is removed, after a succession of changes that marked a gradual return to naturalness, conflicts arise. The truth is uncovered; tears are shed.Many young fantasizers part from their lovers at this point. They embark on another relationship until the next disillusion, the next dissolution, then embark on another relationship, and so forth. They do the same in other areas of life, starting this or that with high expectations and quitting upon the first difficulties, time and again. They never settle for less than perfection; they never build anything to speak of.Some of these fantasizers stop this nonsense after a number of disappointments and finally change into brave realists. Their bravery distinguishes them from other disenchanted souls who give up hope to give in to laziness with a clear conscience. These defeatists confuse their attitude with realism and suffer nullity or mediocrity rather than fight for excellence, which is possible, unlike perfection. In their view, humans are in their element only when fantasizing, like fish when swimming. In fact, humans – who are adaptable – are closer to amphibians than to fish. They can come back to earth without dying of frustration, and even better, with a chance to live happily, thanks to a blend of struggle and resignation that yields joy and serenity.Brave realists know and accept the conditions and limitations of happiness. They think it all the more precious as it has a high cost and is bound to be lost sooner or later. They also understand that although one may indulge in a fickle existence for a while, one must eventually commit and apply oneself to a particular relationship, study, or career, in spite of imperfections and difficulties, if one wishes to achieve something worthy of mention. The True and Magnificent Power of Giving

You've probably heard of the popular saying "It's better to
give than to receive." But do you actually know what hidden
power lies within this magnanimous act known as "giving?"When you give something from your heart without expecting
anything in return, you release a powerful force that will
trigger your good deed to "bounce" back to you in amazing,
and sometimes unusual ways.I firmly believe that whatever you impart to others will
come back to you a hundred fold. You are doing yourself a
big favor by helping someone in need. By doing even the
smallest acts of generosity, you are inviting good vibrations
to come into your life.You would be earning the respect and love of your recipients.
You know that you will always have a loyal group of friends
who would help, protect, and do anything for you just because
they feel that they have to repay you in any way they can.
Most people would have the urge or drive to reciprocate any
act of kindness you've shown them.However, this does not mean that you must expect them to repay
you. Give without any expectation of rewards. Don't do it
just because you have an ulterior motive. Give unconditionally.
Give because you are happy doing it. The universe will get
back to you in its own special way.Speaking of happiness, the act of giving can summon the spirit
of joy to come into your heart. How would you feel when you've
given something to your less fortunate neighbors? Let me tell
you that nothing could brighten up my day more than hearing them
express their most heartfelt gratitude and seeing their smiles
extend from ear to ear.Giving is also a healthy habit. It could prolong your life by
instilling within you an inner sense of peace and accomplishment.Just like all things in life, giving has its limitations.
Being too generous can have its toll. Your kindness might be
taken advantage of and people might abuse your good intentions.
Beware of individuals who are continuously seeking your aid.
It's better to teach them how to solve their problems than to
always attend to their needs.As one saying goes ..."Give them some fish and you'll feed them for a day. Teach them
how to fish and you'll feed them for a lifetime."Lastly, here's what I consider the most important rule about
giving. Keep your good deeds to yourself. Don't announce to the
whole world that you've donated $100,000 to your favorite charity
or that you've helped save a child from a life-threatening
disease.If you really desire to give, do it secretly and in private.
Some people would write "anonymous" rather than their own names
when they've made a contribution. The universe smiles upon
these individuals, and they will get their just rewards in due

You've probably heard of the popular saying "It's better to
give than to receive." But do you actually know what hidden
power lies within this magnanimous act known as "giving?"When you give something from your heart without expecting
anything in return, you release a powerful force that will
trigger your good deed to "bounce" back to you in amazing,
and sometimes unusual ways.I firmly believe that whatever you impart to others will
come back to you a hundred fold. You are doing yourself a
big favor by helping someone in need. By doing even the
smallest acts of generosity, you are inviting good vibrations
to come into your life.You would be earning the respect and love of your recipients.
You know that you will always have a loyal group of friends
who would help, protect, and do anything for you just because
they feel that they have to repay you in any way they can.
Most people would have the urge or drive to reciprocate any
act of kindness you've shown them.However, this does not mean that you must expect them to repay
you. Give without any expectation of rewards. Don't do it
just because you have an ulterior motive. Give unconditionally.
Give because you are happy doing it. The universe will get
back to you in its own special way.Speaking of happiness, the act of giving can summon the spirit
of joy to come into your heart. How would you feel when you've
given something to your less fortunate neighbors? Let me tell
you that nothing could brighten up my day more than hearing them
express their most heartfelt gratitude and seeing their smiles
extend from ear to ear.Giving is also a healthy habit. It could prolong your life by
instilling within you an inner sense of peace and accomplishment.Just like all things in life, giving has its limitations.
Being too generous can have its toll. Your kindness might be
taken advantage of and people might abuse your good intentions.
Beware of individuals who are continuously seeking your aid.
It's better to teach them how to solve their problems than to
always attend to their needs.As one saying goes ..."Give them some fish and you'll feed them for a day. Teach them
how to fish and you'll feed them for a lifetime."Lastly, here's what I consider the most important rule about
giving. Keep your good deeds to yourself. Don't announce to the
whole world that you've donated $100,000 to your favorite charity
or that you've helped save a child from a life-threatening
disease.If you really desire to give, do it secretly and in private.
Some people would write "anonymous" rather than their own names
when they've made a contribution. The universe smiles upon
these individuals, and they will get their just rewards in due

Those Who Sleep Get Sliced

Chang lived in Flushing, Queens. Every afternoon he rode the train into Manhattan to work in the post office. At the end of his shift he would ride the train back, at well after midnight.If you've ever done shift work, you know how hard it is to sleep in the late morning while everyone else is up and making a lot of racket. That's why, try as he might to stay awake, Chang would often sleep on the train as he returned home from work. He worked out an arrangement with a kind conductor to come by and wake him up just before his stop.One night when he awoke, his front pockets were missing. Someone had gently cut them out of his pants with a razor blade to steal his wallet and pocket change. If Chang had stayed awake, he would have made it home with his money, his driver's license, and his green card.The causes of spiritual slumber correspond closely to why Chang fell asleep on the train. He got used to his surroundings; the temperature is comfortable; the rattle and the vibrations became monotonously redundant, and he nodded off.You go through your spiritual routine, never venturing out of your comfort zone. Nothing shakes you up or gets too challenging. Its sameness becomes is first reassuring, then boring; you can predict what's coming because it's repeating from a hundred times before, and you've heard this same lesson over and over, and you don't bother to look up the verse the preacher cites because you already know what it says, so you just tune out and fade off, and zzzzzz!Or you're having a chat with a confidant, but you can't claim you're really engaged in the conversation. They are revealing, perhaps for the first time, some critical personal issue that is twisting them up inside, but you are only half paying attention. You miss realizing that this is a spiritual moment, an opportunity for God's love to flow through you to your friend, and while you nod, the moment fades.Paul warns that we soldiers can't fall asleep at our post (1 Thess. 5:5-8). We must be better disciplined. Whatever will keep us awake--whether it's changing our routine, or abandoning comfort zones, or ratcheting up our concentration--we must do. We can't afford for Satan to steal from us our zeal, then our effectiveness, then our influence, and finally our salvation--slicing it all right out of our pockets as we snooze.Perk up! Look around! Learn to Deal in Challenges

Insight is unbelievable, only human beings can do this.The man closes his eyes and puts his hands over his eyes and says, "I see it." You say, "No, you don't, you've got your eyes closed."No.There is more than one way to see.And all someone has to do is to see an answer that they can start on immediately and within six months their life could start to multiple and change. Within one year, the difference will be extraordinary and a person who was lost now becomes a person of influence. Just because someone helped them to see for the moment what was wrong and the possibility to change it. And then the challenge to go do it and do it well.Now here is the best challenge of all, "Let's go do it." Don't always say, "You go do it, you change", but rather, "Let's get healthy, let's go change the world, let's build an enterprise, let's work on this together." See I always respond better to, "Let's".Sometimes it is hard to lift yourself out. It's hard to be self inspired at first, and if someone says, "Come on let's start a new program", "come on let's do exercises", "come on let's get healthy", "come on let's start something. I'll be there you be there and you bring a guest and I'll bring a guest, let's start something." That is so inspiring to have somebody say, "Let's, Let's do it. Let's build a team. Let's win the championship. Let's walk off with the trophy.""Let's" - Wow, there is something about that that can keep you awake at nights. There is something about that that turns on the juices. There is something about that that reaches deep in the soul.For a person that could do extraordinary things when somebody says, "Let's, Let's do it". I've got two with me already if you'll be the next one we can conquer the world." You say, "Whoa. Together nobody is a match for us."By yourself you're vulnerable; but with us, nobody is a match.
